Basic Visual Things To Know Before Starting To Learn Vedic Math

You are reading this post because you are interested in learning vedic maths. Vedic maths is for everyone, anyone with any age can learn, he or she just need to have the interest of learning. Though it not necessary that you have to know lots of things in advance before you can start to learn, but if you know some certain things in advance you can learn it quickly. Apart from the sutras there are few things that you must know so that you can learn vedic maths comfortably. Lets check out what are they
1. Multiplication Table
The multiplication table of numbers up to 10 should be at the tip of your tongue.  If you know the multiplication tables of numbers above 10 then that is also very very good.
2. Base
This is the most frequently used term in Vedic Mathematics. Base are nothing but simple numbers that starts with one followed by zeros. The numbers like 10, 100, 1000, etc are the base numbers. A base number consist of only two numbers the one and the zero.
3. Complements
Complement of any number is the number which is obtained by simply subtracting that number from the nearest base number.  Lets say we have a number 75 , the nearest base number  to 75 is 100 so to find the complement of 75 we will just subtract it from 100 , that will give us 25 . So 25 will be the complement of 100
There is a quick trick to find the complement, and you might already be using this in subtracting the numbers. To find the complement of any number, subtract all the digits  from the 9 and the last digit from 10 .
example complement of 352 is 1000- 352 =  648
When a 0 comes at the end of the number, write that 0 as it is and treat the last non zero digit as the last digit
complement of 3520 = 6480
This trick is nothing but the 2nd sutra of vedic maths  All from 9 and the last from 10 (निखिलं नवतश्चरमं दशत)
4. Square and Cube
In calculating the square and cube roots of numbers , we require the last digit of cube and cube root and last digits square and square roots . To know that you must know the square and cubes of numbers up to 10.
Number
Cube
1

2

3
27
4
64
5
125
6
216
7
343
8
512
9
729
10
1000

Notice the numbers carefully in bold, they shows the unique relationship. In the first row the bold numbers are 1 and 1, which shows that if the last digit of the cube is 1 then the last digit of the cube root is also one. Similarly in the second row the bold number are 2 and 8 which shows the relationship that if the last digit of the cube is 8 then the last digit of the cube root is 2. I have summarized the relationship in the below table.

Similarly for the squares the relationship is
